Nowaste Logistics Becomes the World's First Company to Implement AutoCase from AutoStore—Delivered by Swisslog

Nowaste Logistics, the leading Nordic logistics company, is one of the first companies in the world to install an AutoCase from Autostore in one of its logistics terminals. The innovative solution, which was launched in the fall of 2025, is being supplied and installed by Swisslog.

– AutoCase is a solution that is as simple as it is ingenious; it eliminates time-consuming manual work and gives us greater efficiency, speed, and density in one of our highly automated "terminals," says Patrik Johnfors, Head of Solution Design & Implementation at Nowaste Logistics.

Among other things, the terminal in question handles large volumes of clothing shipped from Asia, packed in cardboard boxes. When the boxes arrive, they need to be temporarily stored before being transferred to and picked in the facility’s AutoStore system.

– Deliveries of a new collection for the upcoming season take place many weeks before shipments are scheduled to begin. Furthermore, the delivery must last the entire season, which can be as long as 6 months. Currently, we handle this by storing the boxes on pallets in pallet racks as a buffer, and then replenishing or transferring them as the goods are shipped out. This requires extensive manual buffer management, explains Patrik Johnfors.

With the high-density AutoCase solution, Nowaste Logistics can instead, immediately upon receipt of the cartons, efficiently store and manage them directly in its AutoStore and either retrieve an unopened carton for delivery to the recipient or send the carton to a picking station for order fulfillment.

– We are very pleased that Nowaste Logistics is the first AutoStore customer to pilot test AutoCase. It is a company that embraces innovation, is eager to test new solutions, and is not afraid to challenge established ways of working to improve its operations. At Swisslog, we see the AutoCase portal as an important step forward because it broadens the range of applications that can be automated with AutoStore–technology. By enabling automated handling of packages directly within the AutoStore system, it supports new workflows and helps customers achieve an even higher level of automation, efficiency, and operational flexibility, says Giulia Colombi, CEO EMEA at Swisslog.

The solution was installed at the Nowaste Logistics terminal over the summer and will now be tested with various types and sizes of cardboard boxes before it goes into full operation.

Nowaste Logistics is one of the Nordic region’s leading logistics companies. The company is values-driven and has a clear focus on FMCG, technical solutions, and e-commerce logistics. Its values—passion, innovation, and responsibility—are combined with strengths in automation, IT, and human resources. This provides clients with better opportunities to grow and strengthen their competitiveness. Nowaste Logistics operates modern logistics facilities in Helsingborg, Jönköping, and Stockholm and handles shipments across multiple temperature zones, from refrigerated and frozen to warm.
