Dagab, the Axfood Group’s procurement and logistics company, has decided to use Descartes’ platform for planning and optimizing the Group’s transportation operations. The solution will be used for deliveries from suppliers, deliveries to Axfood’s own stores and wholesale customers, and home deliveries.
– Within a single system, Axfood will be able to make optimal choices between its own and leased vehicles and external transportation providers, optimize routes to minimize mileage, and automatically select transportation companies based on cost and service level. “The platform can also be used to operationally execute and monitor shipments to their final destination, notify customers of ongoing deliveries, and provide electronic delivery confirmation via a mobile app,” says Dan Hellström, Senior Account Executive at Descartes.
Following an initial pilot in Gothenburg in the fall of 2020, an intensive rollout of the transportation management solution to Axfood’s other regions is now underway. The goal is to be ready to go when Dagab’s new logistics center in Bålsta begins operations.
– For us, it was important to find a partner who could handle all the different workflows within a single platform. And a system that felt modern enough for the modern logistics center we’re building. Descartes, as a supplier, met these requirements. In addition, the platform will be a key piece of the puzzle in helping us achieve our sustainability goals. With better utilization of vehicles and optimized routes—that is, higher load factors and fewer total kilometers driven—this will have a positive impact on the company’s costs and, not least, its environmental footprint,” says Helena Blom, Head of Transportation at Dagab.
