Amazon Hires PostNord TPL for Its Nordic Distribution Center

In an interview with Dagens Industri, PostNord TPL CEO Andrew Kristensen reveals that perhaps the world’s most skilled logistics and e-commerce company, Amazon, has chosen PostNord TPL as its 3PL partner for its Nordic distribution center in Eskilstuna—a prestigious assignment that will get underway as early as May.

Last fall, the German e-commerce company Zalando decided to transfer the operation of its central warehouse in Brunna to Postnord TPL, thereby ending its partnership with the French logistics giant CEVA Logistics. With this new contract from Amazon, a similar shake-up is taking place—though this time, it’s the Swiss giant Kuehne Nagel that is being sidelined by the Swedish state-owned logistics company. In an interview with Dagens Industri, Andrew Kristensen emphasizes that price was not the deciding factor in Amazon’s choice:

”They didn’t choose us because we’re the cheapest. Running a business successfully in the Nordic region is completely different from doing so in, say, Germany, France, or the United Kingdom. They’ve begun to realize that we have the expertise; we’re a financially stable company with a local presence,” he says, continuing:

”Of course, both Amazon and Zalando could have chosen one of our major global competitors, which they use in countries where Postnord TPL doesn’t operate—even here in Sweden. They have moved away from that strategy, and we naturally believe this is because we are the best,” Kristensen told Dagens Industri.

What the article fails to mention is that Amazon’s core competencies lie in logistics and technology just as much as in e-commerce. The company is ranked by leading research firms and prominent academics as one of the world’s absolute leaders in supply chain management and logistics. This, of course, makes the choice of PostNord TPL even more prestigious. At the same time, it is a fact that Sweden and the Nordic region are, for now, too peripheral and limited a market for Amazon to be willing to establish its own warehouses and logistics facilities.

PostNord TPL AB is the Nordic region’s largest 3PL company and operates as a subsidiary of the PostNord Group. PostNord TPL operates in Sweden, Denmark, and Finland, where it has a total of just over 700,000 square meters of warehouse space. In 2024, the company had revenue of approximately 2.5 billion SEK and employed about 3,200 people.
