The pharmaceutical distributor Oriola has selected SSI Schäfer as its intralogistics partner for its new highly automated distribution center in Järvenpää, Finland. The project is a central part of Oriola’s strategy to develop its logistics operations, strengthen its delivery capabilities, and lay the groundwork for future growth in Finland.
The 30,000-square-meter facility will increase Oriola’s total capacity by approximately 30 percent and significantly expand its handling of refrigerated products, enabling a flexible and scalable operation as demand evolves.
– This investment is an important step in Oriola’s long-term development. “Together with SSI Schäfer, we are building a future-oriented logistics center that will enable us to offer even better customer service and strengthen our role as part of Finland’s critical healthcare infrastructure,” says Oriola CEO Katarina Gabrielson.
The project builds on the long-standing partnership between Oriola and SSI Schäfer, which dates back to the 1980s. Over the years, the companies have worked together to develop Oriola’s logistics and automation capabilities in Finland. The new distribution center marks the next phase of this collaboration, combining advanced technology with decades of shared experience, with the goal of creating flexible and future-proof operations.
“This project reflects our close partnership with Oriola. Together, we are delivering a world-class solution that ensures a reliable supply of medicines in Finland and sets a new standard for automation,” says Lauri Impiö, Sales Manager at SSI Schäfer in Finland.
SSI Schäfer will deliver a comprehensive automation solution designed to ensure high delivery precision, efficient material flows, and reliable pharmaceutical distribution. The flexible system architecture enables continuous business development in line with changing customer needs while supporting Oriola’s sustainability and energy efficiency goals.
The distribution center being built in Järvenpää will be one of the most advanced automated facilities in Finland. The comprehensive solution combines high-performance storage and picking technologies, conveyor systems, palletizing robots, storage bins, and intelligent logistics software. This enables material flows that are efficient, reliable, and adaptable to future needs.
Installation of the automation systems at the 30,000-square-meter distribution center is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
