The Swedish Trade Federation’s E-commerce Indicator estimates e-commerce revenue for October at 13.1 billion kronor—a 16 percent increase compared with the same month last year and the fourth consecutive month of double-digit growth. PostNord’s equivalent, the E-Barometer, reports growth for the third quarter at 10 percent compared to the third quarter of 2024.
– The trend from last month is continuing. The figures we are now presenting are a sign of strength heading into some of the most important weeks of the year for e-commerce. “Companies are heading into Black Week and the holiday shopping season with renewed optimism about a strong finish to the year,” says Per Ljungberg, Head of Innovation at Svensk Handel.
As in recent months, the overall growth in sales is due to the fact that online shoppers are spending a significantly higher average total amount than last year, rather than an increase in the number of online shoppers. Last year, the proportion of online shoppers increased compared to previous years. Now, the average purchase amount is also rising.
– The rise in lifestyle spending is a clear sign that households are more optimistic about the future. The furniture and home furnishings industry performed very strongly during the pandemic but experienced a slump when the economy turned around. Now we’re seeing that consumers have started prioritizing purchases for the home again. Stronger purchasing power and a more dynamic housing market are contributing to this upturn, says Ylva Staszewski, head of the Parcel business area at PostNord Sweden.
