GXO Logistics is investing in humanoid warehouse robots

GXO Logistics, a U.S.-based, globally active 3PL company, has entered into an agreement with robotics developer Reflex Robotics to conduct pilot testing of their humanoid robot, the Reflex Bot. A humanoid robot, also known as a robot with human-like features, is designed to mimic the appearance of the human body and perform tasks..

Under the agreement, GXO Logistics, which already operates a highly automated logistics business, will conduct a pilot of Reflex Robotics’ humanoid robot solution in its day-to-day operations through a “Robot-as-a-Service” (RaaS) agreement.

The Reflex robot takes about 60 minutes to start up, and over time it becomes fully autonomous by using AI and machine learning to learn how humans perform warehouse tasks. The humanoid robot is said to be capable of performing various repetitive tasks, such as moving boxes and picking items, and switching between different tasks seamlessly.

“We’re excited to partner with Reflex to develop applications that will enable their robot to perform various tasks in our warehouses,” says Adrian Stoch, Chief Automation Officer at GXO.

The collaboration is part of GXO’s operational incubator program, which partners with leading developers to validate the practical application of various technologies by using the warehouse as a real-world laboratory. The long-term goal of this agreement is to deploy the Reflex robotic solution extensively across GXO’s operations, thereby reducing capacity constraints and allowing warehouse staff to focus on more stimulating tasks.

– We are pleased that GXO, a leading provider of automated logistics solutions, is partnering with us to advance its strategy. “We’ve learned a great deal from working on-site at their warehouse, and we’re rapidly scaling up our robot production to support use cases for shelf picking, fulfillment, and quality assurance,” says Ritesh Ragavender, CEO of Reflex Robotics.
